Can you really call yourself an author if you have no published books available?
This is a question I’ve wrestled with a lot. You see, the thing is, I have published two novels before. The first 2 books in my Anastasia Avignon series: The Last King, and The Gem of Orithian. So why then are they no longer available?
It’s all part of my journey of growth as both an author, and a person. I’ve learned new things, gained new skills, and realised I wasn’t doing my beloved characters any justice with how I was telling their stories. So I withdrew my published novels while undertaking the task of writing these two stories with fresh eyes. I’ve upskilled by learning more about writing craft, and grown as a person, and I want to be giving you guys the absolute best version of myself, and my art.
So … how is the re-writing progressing, you may ask?
Well, I actually managed to completely re-write The Last King, but I still wasn’t happy with what I had. I felt I was still holding myself back with fear and anxiety, and of course, my long-time companion: imposter syndrome. Perhaps it was the latter that instilled fear and anxiety in me in the first place, but I knew I still hadn’t developed the solution to the problem of my original print runs.
I’m currently in the process of re-writing The Last King again, and I’m hitting more hurdles than ever before, but despite the challenges I’m facing with it, I know this time that this version of Anastasia’s story is absolutely the one that was meant to be. For all the obstacles that have made me want to give up, I’m proud of the direction the story is taking, and I can’t wait to be able to share it with you one day.
